Kennel cough, also known as canine infectious tracheobronchitis, is a highly contagious respiratory disease that affects dogs. Caused by a combination of bacteria and viruses, this infection is spread through the air via coughing, sneezing, or sharing contaminated objects. Kennel cough is most commonly seen in places where dogs are housed together, such as kennels, shelters, and doggy daycares, but can also be transmitted in parks, on walks, or during training classes. Symptoms include a hacking cough, nasal discharge, lethargy, and loss of appetite. Prevention is key, with vaccinations and avoiding contact with infected animals being the best defense.
